Gay Officers Action League President Opposes Pride’s Uniformed Law Enforcement Ban – NPR

NPR’S Michel Martin speaks with Brian E. Downey, president of the Gay Officers Action League, about NYC Pride’s decision to ban law enforcement from attending Pride events in uniform.

MICHEL MARTIN, HOST:

New Yorkers love their parades. And the annual Pride March has become another much-anticipated event, typically attracting millions to the city for the festivities. And like most such gatherings, it was canceled last year due to health concerns because of the pandemic. This year it is back on. But there’s a situation. As part of what the organizers called an effort to minimize law enforcement presence. Last week, the organizers of NYC Pride announced a policy banning corrections and law enforcement exhibitors at all NYC pride events through 2025. Organizers said officers are welcome to attend, but not to March in uniform. The decision was controversial within the group. Members of Heritage of Pride, the organization that plans NYC pride events, voted to overturn the ban, leading one of the co-chairs to resign. And then the vote was reversed by the group’s executive board, keeping the ban in place.

This has not gone over well with the NYPD and in particular, with members of the Gay Officers Action League, or GOAL. They said in a statement that NYC Pride has, quote, “long been a valued partner of our organization and its abrupt about face in order to placate some of the activists in our community is shameful,” unquote. We wanted to hear more from the officers affected by this decision. So we called Brian Downey. He is the president of the Gay Officers Action League, or GOAL, and a detective with the New York City Police Department. Detective Downey, thanks so much for joining us. Welcome.

BRIAN DOWNEY: Thank you for having me, Michel. It’s a great honor to be here and spend some time with you today.

MARTIN: So how long have you been going to pride? Could you just tell a little bit about what participating in Pride means to you or has meant to you?

DOWNEY: Well, that’s a very interesting question, because I don’t think that my story is unique, but I think it actually echoes with many people. I wasn’t out until, you know, I was 28, 29 years old, fully out of the closet. And I actually came out with the assistance of GOAL. It was until I became a police officer, I was immersed with a group of people in the organization. And my first pride was actually in uniform marching on Fifth Avenue. And I say my perspective while I was doing it wasn’t so much that I was celebrating my identity, but at the same time I felt more of kind of a liberation and being there in that uniform kind of showing the world that I’ve infiltrated this institution.

MARTIN: So, you know, people may remember that inclusion in New York City parades has been something that’s been contentious over the years. I mean, people may remember the St. Patrick’s Day parade. LGBT groups were not allowed to march as LGBT groups for years and leading political figures like going back to Mayor David Dinkins to boycott the parade until LGBT groups were included, which they were starting in 2014. It’s my understanding that in 1996, your organization GOAL had to sue so that you could wear your uniforms. Is that correct?

DOWNEY: That is correct. That was a very, very long struggle. You know, the fight was with the NYPD to be able to wear the uniforms in the march. And it was it was beyond the uniforms. It was also, you know, people were – GOAL was denied the right to host a pride celebration at police headquarters, where, you know, a lot of other recognized fraternal societies were allowed to host a celebration.

MARTIN: The organizers say that – they point to other history here. You know, the fact that, for example, the modern LGBTQ movement was in some ways launched or one of the pivotal events in the life of the movement was the NYPD raid at the Stonewall Inn in 1969, which the NYPD officially apologized for in 2019. I want to mention but just last year, there was a separate pride march. The Queer Liberation March for Black Lives and against police brutality ended with altercations between protesters and the police.

And organizers said that this new policy was made with the intention of creating safer spaces at, quote, “a time when violence against marginalized groups, specifically BIPAC and trans communities has continued to escalate,” unquote. I think their argument is that the inclusion of officers in uniform may come at the cost of everybody feeling safe. That this is in a way, a way to sort of de-escalate. What do you say to that?

DOWNEY: So we’ve always honored the legacy of Stonewall. Our work is continuing the legacy of Stonewall. And I’m talking about the Gay Officers Action League. Now, Heritage of Pride they’re weighing in on an event that wasn’t their event, right? So they’re saying that, you know, what happened last year at Washington Square Park, et cetera. OK, so let’s look at this for a second. I have firsthand knowledge of what happened at Washington Square Park. OK, and we’re not really getting the whole story of everything that happened at Washington Square Park.

MARTIN: I don’t know that – I don’t know that they are they are saying specifically that that was the triggering event. I think what they’re saying is that overall they want to de-emphasize law enforcement presence. And that they feel a law enforcement presence is triggering to some people and that they would like to de-emphasize that. What do you say to that?

DOWNEY: What would I say to that is they put out a list of things, right? Some of them you may be able to accomplish and some of them you may not be. I do not think that the NYPD or the city of New York is going to have an event where 2 million people sometimes are present, right? And we’ve seen active shooter events in this country. We’ve seen domestic terrorism in this country. And do I think that the police department – now, again, I don’t speak for them – is just not going to show up to an event like that where a mass casualty incident is possible, right? So you say that, but you also say that GOAL can’t participate in uniform. I think that that’s an easier policy to set and an easy win. For whatever agenda you’re looking to push.

MARTIN: But tell me more about how you feel about that. Like, tell me more about that. Like they’re offering this as a compromise. They’re saying that officers can still participate in the event as long as they don’t wear their uniforms. What do you make of that? Like, how do you respond to that?

DOWNEY: I don’t know how triggering a bunch of cops carrying trans and pride flags behind the gay banner. I mean, you live in the same world that I do. There’s not that long ago in our history where we’d be talking about an SNL skit, a New Jersey state trooper carrying a pride flag and a transgender flag, one in each hand. And that’s who we’re penalizing. People – this is punitive, as far as I’m concerned, for all the sins of the criminal justice system, for all the sins of law enforcement. This is a punitive action against us.

MARTIN: Is there any chance you would go if you can’t go in uniform, if this decision stands and they’re saying you can’t go wearing your uniform, would you go?

DOWNEY: Personally, I more than likely would not, and we haven’t had, you know, a membership meeting or anything of that nature since this decision was handed down. So I can tell you that the overwhelming majority of people, even when I go on TV or on the radio and I say, well, we haven’t had a chance to discuss what that would look like yet. I get, you know, a ton of text messages and phone calls saying, I’m not doing that. We’re not doing that. So I don’t think that that’s really a popular sentiment right now.

You know, this is the 20th anniversary of the attacks on our nation on September 11. There’s a lot of emotion right now in the profession, but every bad thing becomes lumped together into one noise. And I don’t think that’s fair. I don’t think that’s fair to my members, and I don’t think it’s fair to this profession.

MARTIN: That was Brian Downey. He’s an NYPD detective and president of the Gay Officers Action League, or GOAL. Detective Downey, thanks so much for talking to us.

DOWNEY: Thank you for having me, Michel. You be well, and stay safe.

State Remembers Slain Gay Rights Activist Harvey Milk On 91st Birthday – CBS San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Gov. Gavin Newsom proclaimed Saturday Harvey Milk Day on what would have been the slain gay rights activist’s 91st birthday.

Milk became the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California when he won a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977. A year later, he was assassinated along with Mayor George Moscone by former supervisor Dan White on Nov. 27, 1978.

While it has been nearly 43 years since that fateful day, Milk’s impact still looms large in San Francisco.

“Milk paid the ultimate price for his advocacy when he was struck down by an assassin’s bullet just a year into his term on the Board of Supervisors,” Newsom wrote in his proclamation. “His legacy lives on in laws and policies that protect the LGBTQ community and in the hearts of generations of activists.”

“As we honor Harvey Milk today, let us remember his words, ‘Hope will never be silent,’” Newsom continued. “Members of the LGBTQ community — in the United States and around the world — still face discrimination and violence, rooted in the same hatred that Milk died fighting. They deserve hope and they cannot abide our silence. We must carry on his fearless advocacy as we work towards a California for All.”

San Antonio Spurs head into offseason facing five burning questions – San Antonio Express-News

Minutes after the Spurs’ season ended Wednesday with a play-in loss at Memphis, DeMar DeRozan was asked to play a dispiriting round of word association.

Asked to describe the COVID-marred, 33-39 campaign the Spurs had just completed, DeRozan found three terms that seemed apt.

“Unique. Roller coaster. Weird,” DeRozan said.

By the time the Spurs returned to San Antonio to clean out their lockers and finalize vacation plans, a fourth word was also appropriate.

Over.

While Spurs players at least can look forward to an offseason devoid of daily coronavirus tests, management will set forth with continuing to rebuild a playoff contender.

Here are five burning questions that will guide that pursuit:

1. When the Spurs return for training camp in the fall, who will be the coach?

For 24 consecutive camps, the answer to that question was written in indelible ink: Gregg Popovich.

Now that Popovich has turned 72, America’s longest-tenured professional sports coach might actually have prowled his last NBA sideline.

Popovich hasn’t made his intentions known, of course, and he might not until after he finishes coaching Team USA at the Olympics in August.

The Spurs would love to have him back, and the call will be Popovich’s to make.

The future has to arrive some time, but if Popovich does walk away, it will be a blow to the Spurs’ culture. It is unlikely the next coach — whoever he or she is — will come with Popovich’s gravitas.

It was once impossible to imagine the Spurs without Tim Duncan. It’s equally unimaginable to picture them without Popovich.

But change is inevitable.

2. Whose jersey will DeRozan be wearing next season?

The 31-year-old guard was the closest thing the Spurs had to a star this season. He led the team in scoring at 21.6 points per game and in assists with a career-best 6.9.

More than that, he was a steadying veteran force on a team overrun with kids.

For the first time in his 12 NBA seasons, DeRozan enters the summer open to outside offers in free agency.

It will be interesting to gauge the market for him.

The Spurs likely would take him back at a certain price. DeRozan likely would return for a price.

Whether those two price points line up remains to be seen.

DeRozan will be one of the biggest names on the free-agent market when it opens Aug. 2. It is possible, if not likely, that another team offers a deal the Spurs will be disinclined to match.

If the Spurs do lose DeRozan in free agency, they could have something approaching $60 million in salary cap room with which to replace him.

But be warned: Star players don’t grow on trees in the NBA, and they don’t often come voluntarily to small markets such as San Antonio.

DeRozan’s departure would create a void difficult for the Spurs to fill.

There is an argument to be made that the Spurs would be better served committing fully to the youth movement already in progress. DeRozan’s exit likely would accelerate that process.

3. What about the Spurs’ other veteran free agents?

DeRozan isn’t the only significant Spur seeing his contract expire this summer.

Rudy Gay and Patty Mills also are lined up for free agency.

The 34-year-old Gay has been the quintessential Spur since his arrival in 2017, and he remained a valuable bench scorer this season.

Mills, 32, has been with the Spurs for 10 seasons and remains the last on-court link to their championship days.

If the Spurs were to lose both Popovich and Mills in the same offseason, it would be a double hit in terms of corporate knowledge lost.

Even as they turn the keys to the franchise over to a gaggle of 20-somethings, the Spurs value veteran leadership. It would not be surprising to see some combination of 30-somethings return.

4. How valuable will a normal summer be for the Spurs’ youngsters?

The COVID-ravaged summer of 2020 did not offer good development opportunities for up-and-coming Spurs who could have used it.

There was no Summer League, a truncated training camp, no open gyms, and limited opportunities to work out with coaches.

With things seemingly close to returning to normal this summer, the Spurs’ development program has a chance to get back on track.

That is good news for still-growing players such as Keldon Johnson, Lonnie Walker IV, Devin Vassell and others.

Dejounte Murray, not exactly a graybeard at age 24, already has appointed himself the ringleader of the Spurs’ summer workout crew.

No matter what else happens with the Spurs’ offseason, their chances of competing for a playoff spot in 2021-22 are predicated on the development of players already on the roster.

A full-scale summer also will be beneficial to whoever the Spurs draft in July, which brings us to the final burning question …

5. Have the Spurs considered trying to win the lottery again?

In decades past, the Spurs found a foolproof formula for building a championship contender: Win the No. 1 overall pick and draft David Robinson, then win the No. 1 overall pick again a few years later and draft Tim Duncan.

The math might work against the Spurs in that endeavor this time around.

Still, having missed the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time in club history, the Spurs are poised to add a lottery pick in consecutive seasons for the first time.

They snagged Vassell with the No. 11 selection last year, and the 20-year-old swingman is expected to be a key part of the Spurs’ foundation going forward.

As it stands, the Spurs are tied with Charlotte, which also finished 33-39, for the 11th-best lottery odds this summer. That tie will be broken by coin flip.

At either 11th or 12th, the odds of the Spurs picking in the top four remain miniscule.

Still, no matter the outcome of the coin flip, the Spurs are in position to add another talented young prospect this summer.

Rupe’s script, however, does give Trevor Southworth a showcase role, into which the actor deliciously sinks his teeth. Southworth’s bravura performance, however, completely eclipses that of co-star Cristian Nieves. As director, Rupe has let Nieves be so low-key — to emphasize the contrast? — that his flat delivery is swallowed up by the large Orange venue.

Katy Perry Producer Says People Didn’t ‘Get’ the Song ‘Ur So Gay’ – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Katy Perry taunts a man who she deems too effeminate in her track “Ur So Gay.” This raises an interesting question: Was the central character of “Ur So Gay” based on an actual guy? And, if so, why did Perry feel comfortable making jokes about his gender presentation? Here’s what Perry and her producer had to say — and why her producer feels the song is misunderstood.

Katy Perry wanted listeners to understand the ‘context’ of ‘Ur So Gay’

During an interview with The Star Scoop, Perry said most of the inspiration for her songs came from moments in her life. In addition, she revealed she generally writes about relationships and tries to inject humor into her tracks. Afterward, she discussed the origin of “Ur So Gay,” a song  that’s trying to be darkly humorous.

“Every time I play that song, everybody has come back laughing,” she said. “I’m not the type of person who walks around calling everything gay. That song is about a specific guy that I used to date and specific issues that he had. The song is about my ex wearing guyliner and taking emo pictures of himself in the bathroom mirror. The listeners have to read the context of the song and decide for themselves.”

‘Ur So Gay’ producer explains why Katy Perry was comfortable making these jokes

In the lyrics to “Ur So Gay,” Perry doesn’t just look down on her emo ex for wearing makeup. She also says he should hang himself with his H&M scarf. With lyrics like that, “Ur So Gay” proved to be one of the more controversial songs of Perry’s early career. During an interview with Billboard, “Ur So Gay” producer Greg Wells discussed why Perry felt she was allowed to make these sorts of jokes about her ex.

“A lot of people didn’t get the intent with which we wrote it,” Wells said. “I mean I understand, I get it, but that’s not at all what was behind it. It’s tough because most of, without sounding ridiculous, most of the people that are my friends, most of the people that I work, with happen to be gay. I don’t know why that is. And, the same is very true for Katy. Possibly more-so. So, I think she was comfortable making that joke about a guy who may not have been gay that she dated.” In addition, Wells said the track was supposed to be irreverent, not Perry’s way of singing “Kumbaya.”

How the world reacted to Katy Perry’s ‘Ur So Gay’

The controversy surrounding “Ur So Gay” didn’t help it commercially. While Perry would become a chart juggernaught in the late 2000s and the 2010s, “Ur So Gay” did not hit the Billboard Hot 100. However, the song was included on Perry’s EP Ur So Gay and her album One of the Boys. One of the Boys was a massive hit, reaching No. 9 on the Billboard 200 and staying on the chart for 92 weeks. Regardless, Perry’s casual use of the word “gay” in an insulting manner continued to offend, with Glamour ranking “Ur So Gay” as Perry’s worst song in 2020.

Hip-Hop Star Takura Rubbishes Gay Relationship Rumour – The Zimbabwe Mail

Hip-Hop Star Takura

HIP-HOP star Takura has rubbished claims he is involved in a homosexual relationship, revealing plans to sue blog zimmagazine for peddling the rumours.

This comes after social media was abuzz this weekend with pictures of a man alleged to be Takura sharing a kiss with another unidentified man.

The picture had originated from an online magazine site with a headline reading, ‘Leaked pictures of Takura with his gay boyfriend’.

However, in a statement, the ‘MaObama’ chanter said he had ordered his legal team to sue the magazine for defamation.

He went on to add the story had caused a lot of discomfort to his family.

“I am not the person in these pictures. The pictures are clearly taken from an unknown site and doctored to create the impression that I am in them. Takura added; “I wish to categorically deny that I am the person in the pictures, I am not now nor have I ever been in a homosexual, whilst I have always kept my private life out of the spotlight, it is important that I speak out against these falsified pictures.

Furniture trends that gained popularity during WFH – National Herald

As people across the country are getting used to working from home, furniture that fits this new lifestyle is in popular demand. The Indian furnishings and design industry is busy attempting to fulfil this need, driving a huge development through these trends.

Raghunandan Saraf, CEO and Founder of Saraf Furniture lists a few furniture trends popular during WFH:

Personalised spaces within the household:

Working trends have seen a shift with the offices being shifted to the households. A major change in pattern includes virtual meetings and work calls. Owing to this employees tend to create an aesthetic and presentable corner in their homes turning them into office desks with minimal furniture.

Comfortable and cool design:

With rise in WFH, numerous corporate organisations allowed WFH even post-unlock as well as gave them a sizeable remittance to purchase office furniture and prerequisites to set up a work station at home. Employees capitalised on the chance to create a comfortable work corner that suit their long working hours. Solace and style are both reflecting in the new work corners, giving off a vive of sophistication while attending official meetings while simultaneously give their home a superior stylistic theme look. This shot up the interest for home desks, convertible desks, and chairs by tenfold.

Easy to clean and disinfect:

Aside from comfort, simple to clean surfaces are popular as Covid-19 has installed disinfection in individuals’ day to day lives. People regularly end up eating or drinking refreshments while working and that only increased while being at home. User friendly and simple to clean and scratch free surfaces became significant feature while picking the furnishings.

Multi-purpose Furniture:

Furniture pieces with multiple uses saw a preference too, because of WFH. Professionals who had to work from home for extended periods of time chose to pick furniture that would not just effectively be workstations, but in also be of other uses at home. For example, office seats that could be utilised as a relaxing seat or chairs during non-working hours, or a work area that could likewise be a compact dinner table by the day’s end, consequently, giving more value for cash invested in the possibly temporary requirement of working from home.

Amid second wave of the pandemic and another round of lockdowns, these patterns are to stay for the long haul and will keep on affecting furnishings and home design sector.

Suns draw defending champ Lakers in return to NBA playoffs – WDIV ClickOnDetroit

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns plowed through the regular season in impressive fashion, breaking an 11-year playoff drought by finishing with the second-most wins in the entire league.

Their postseason reward: A first-round date with the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers.

In arguably the most intriguing opening-round matchup, the No. 7 seed Lakers enter the series as a slight betting favorite over the No. 2 seed Suns, according to FanDuel. The main reason is obvious: Los Angeles has a healthy LeBron James and Anthony Davis after both superstars missed big chunks of the regular season with injuries.

The Suns aren’t complaining. After all, they figured they’d be playing the Lakers at some point anyway if they wanted to make it to the NBA Finals.

“Our guys aren’t bitter, we’re looking forward to competing against the Lakers,” Suns coach Monty Williams said. “We’re not upset or feel like anybody has done something to our Cheerios. We have to go play the Lakers. Everything you want is on the other side of hard.

“Right now, the Lakers are our hard.”

Phoenix quickly transformed into a title contender this summer when the Suns added 11-time All-Star point guard Chris Paul and veteran forward Jae Crowder. The duo joined an interesting young core of Devin Booker, Mikal Bridges and Deandre Ayton and the chemistry was almost immediate.

After an 8-8 start to the season, the Suns went 43-13 over the rest of the schedule.

It’s an especially sweet moment for Booker. The two-time All-Star slogged through five losing seasons before finally getting to the playoffs. He said he’s “100 percent” grateful to get the chance to face the Lakers in the postseason and isn’t concerned about what the oddsmakers are saying about the Suns’ chances.

“We have a good group in this locker room, from top to bottom,” Booker said. “We’re focused on winning basketball games. That’s it.”

James missed most of the past two months while dealing with a sprained ankle but returned for the season’s final few games. The 36-year-old looked ready for a playoff push in the Lakers’ 103-100 win over Golden State in the play-in tournament. He finished with 22 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and hit a crucial 3-pointer in the final minute that proved to be the game-winner.

But the four-time NBA champion said underestimating the Suns would be a mistake.

“They are the number two team in the league for a reason,” James said. “They surround CP and Book with a supporting cast that has played at a big level. We have to understand that and match that.”

CP3 vs. KING JAMES

For the first time in their storied careers, Paul and James will face off head-to-head in the playoffs.

James said matchups against Paul are as much of a mental grind as a physical one.

“It is going to be comparable to playing against Rondo and Draymond in the series — high IQ guys and great competitors,” James said. “I knew I had to be on my A-game physically and with my mind. I know the competitor and IQ of a basketball player that (Paul) is.”

RESTED AND READY

Paul was phenomenal in his 16th season, averaging 16.4 points and 8.9 assists for the Suns, giving them the production and savvy they needed to move into the league’s elite.

But the number CP3 takes the most pride in might be 70. That’s the number of regular-season games he played out of a possible 72. It’s one reason the week of rest leading up to Sunday’s Game 1 has been appreciated.

“One of the things I’m most proud of is being available,” Paul said. “I think that’s a talent in itself, is just being available for the team. Given the rigorous schedule that we had, I think I did a really good job of taking care of my body.”

Health was one reason the Suns had so much success during the regular season. The team’s core of Mikal Bridges (72 games), Paul (70), Ayton (69), Booker (67) and Crowder (60) was able to spend a lot of time on the floor together, which gave them ample time to gel.

ARE YOU EXPERIENCED?

Several of the Suns’ best players, including Booker, Ayton and Bridges, will be playing in the NBA postseason for the first time.

On the other side, James will be playing in his 261st career playoff game on Sunday. Actually, it’s the 262nd if you count Wednesday’s play-in game against the Warriors. Several of the other Lakers were on last year’s team that won the title.

Advantage Lakers? Los Angeles coach Frank Vogel said that remains to be seen.

“When you have a group that won a championship, that benefits you,” Vogel said. “If there are teams that don’t have experience, that can go either way. When I was in Indiana with a group without experience, we had guys who played out of their minds.”

Ukraine march in support of more transgender rights – Euronews

Scores of people rallied in Ukraine on Saturday in support of the Trangender and LGBT community.

Crowds gathered in the capital Kyiv, waving flags and chanting as they called on the government to change legislation they see as discriminatory.

In 2019 the World Health Organzation accepted new measures which gave greater rights to those wishing to change their gender registered at birth and no longer classed the decision as a mental health or behavioral disorder.

The Ukraine health ministry has yet to accept these measures.

People wishing to change gender in Ukraine currently have to pass a psychiatric exam, explained Inna Iryskina, a coordinator at LGBTQ NGO Insight.

Transgender diagnoses are then classified as a psychiatric disease.

Some activists opposing the march also attended and were separated by lines of police.

Jenelle Evans: David’s Not Homophobic, He Just Doesn’t Like Gay People! – Californianewstimes.com

You see, General Evans is ignorant of many things.

You know it, we know it, everyone knows it.

Recall that people were calling David Eason’s racist, and she said that He probably couldn’t be a racist Because he was black?

He took one of those DNA tests to find his ancestors, and she “he has Senegal and North Africa in him,” and it was “less than 1%.” But he [Black].. “

She was dragged in for a day or two because of that nonsense before claiming it was just a joke, but it was clearly not a joke.

That is the kind of ignorance we are talking about here.

Given that, these new statements about David’s homophobia are not surprising.

They shouldn’t, but of course that doesn’t mean they don’t.

OK, so we all remember it Jenelle fired from TeenMom2 After 2019 David killed her dog And they temporarily lost custody of all their children, right?

But a year ago David was fired For some very terrible things he said on social media.

He is arguing with people on Twitter who criticize him for his love of guns, and something about how people should be allowed to have guns on school grounds to protect their children. Said.

Someone pointed out that worrying about protecting a given child is quite rich for him. All accusations of child abuse and neglectBut he said no one had the right to teach him how to parent his child.

“Why don’t you tell Lumao, Homo and Transgender parents to start teaching their children better morals?” He wrote. “Oh, I forgot It should be normal.. “

When asked if he was going to teach his children what he didn’t like, he said, “No, I’ll teach them to go out and not.”

“When you lie down with your dog, you wake up with fleas,” he added.

He also called gay and transgender people “disgust,” and when someone legitimately called him homophobia, he said, “Homophobia? You really lost it now, I especially homophobia. I’m not afraid of hatred. “

MTV didn’t waste a lot of time dismissing him for these remarks, and Genel quickly jumped into his defense.

“David didn’t even understand how people would be aggressive or how Twitter would work,” she said at the time.

She also claimed that “David doesn’t hate people in the LGBT community,” and that they even have gay friends.

At the time, it was a ridiculous defense-obviously he is homophobic and never really discusses it after what he wrote. He clearly had a lot of hatred for people in the LGBT community.

And even if you don’t understand how aggressive he is, it’s hard to imagine, but it’s definitely no excuse.

“But why are we talking about all of this?” You may be wondering. “This happened three years ago.”

Well, friends, we’re talking about it because Genel has made it all brand new. interview With the sun.

It’s unclear if she was asked about the controversy or just wants to stand by a man, but whatever the context, she said, “David is against gay and transgender people. I don’t. “

“He just doesn’t want to hang out with them.”

Do you think she looks good on him? Because she is definitely not.

She claimed that her husband was “kind and respectful” whenever he was around the LGBTQ + community, and that everything was “disproportionately blown away.”

“It was a question about his parenting,” she said. “The question was whether he wanted his children around certain types of people, and he seemed to be” I rather don’t want them. ” “

Her defense against him was strange at the time, but now it’s strange.

How was it disproportionately blown away when you saw the entire conversation happening in real time on Twitter?

Why isn’t this a homophobia in textbooks?

Trick question: it is Homophobia in textbooks, and when he still holds these ignorant and harmful beliefs and teaches them to his children, is that he can be “great and respectful” in front of gay men. is not a problem.

But hey, good, general.

Talking COVID-19 Vaccinations With Your Kids; State’s Top Health Officials Offer Some Advice – CBS San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Doctors Mark Ghaly and Erica Pan have led California’s battle against COVID-19, but they both are also parents and on Saturday shared what they have been telling their children about the importance of getting vaccinated.

Currently, children as young as 12 can receive a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination in California.

Ghaly, the state’s Health and Human Services Agency Secretary, has four children. He said it’s important for parents to sit down and address the concerns their children may have.

“”My wife and I sat down and had a really thoughtful conversation with her, answered all the questions,” he said of his conversations with his daughter before she was vaccinated last week. “Would it hurt? Does it feel any different than the flu shot? Would she be sore the next day? What would it allowed her to do if she got vaccinated? Would she be the only one among her friends if she does get vaccinated?”

“Having that conversation gave her the confidence to go in and get the jab that I hope so many young people in California get,” he continued. “Getting that jab, getting that shot, is going to help us to get back to the activities we have missed for so long. Children, in particular, have had their lives turned upside down.”

Ghaly, who is also pediatrician, said he understands concerns parents may have.

“Parents want nothing more than to protect their kids,” he said. “To give them that chance to grow up to be healthy, productive young adults and to enjoy some of the things we get to enjoy ourselves. COVID-19 vaccine help us do that. Helps us get back to that normal.”

Besides her duties as a pediatrician and the state’s epidemiologist, Pan is also the mother of two teenagers.

“As a physician and a mother, I want to reassure parents and guardians that the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has been proven to be safe and effective in youths 12 to 15,” she said.

“My husband, who is also a pediatrician, and I talked with our children about the vaccine,” Pan continued. “We agreed that getting the vaccine is a big step in helping them return to doing the things they love — hanging out with friends and enjoying school clubs and activities.”

Health officials told Scientific American when it comes to your children, some non-severe side effects may be experienced following a vaccination. The most commonly reported side effects have been pain and swelling at the injection site.

Other common side effects include tiredness and headache. Similar to young adults, some adolescents have experienced fever, chills, muscle aches and joint pain, which may be more common after the second dose. These effects are short-lived, however, and most resolve within one to two days.

Some adolescents may also faint when receiving an injection. If this is a concern for your child, let your vaccine administration site know ahead of time – your child can be given the vaccine while they’re seated or lying down to avoid injuries from falling.

Elizabeth Taylor’s incredible friendship with the gay actor she tried to seduce – PinkNews

Elizabeth Taylor tried to seduce gay actor Montgomery Clift before they became “soulmates”, according to the author who chronicled their incredible friendship.

Taylor was 17 when she met Clift while they starred together in the 1951 drama A Place in the Sun.

Charles Casillo, author of Elizabeth and Monty: The Untold Story of Their Intimate Friendship, told PEOPLE: “Up until that point, whoever she set her eyes on, she could get.

“Of course, we all want what we can’t have.”

The two actors soon developed feelings for each other, and their co-star Shelley Winters “actually thought there was an affair going on”, Casillo said.

They shared kisses but the author said that “Monty couldn’t bring himself to tell her that he was gay” and refused to take things further.

She would rehearse with him while she was in the bath, while he sat on the edge of the tub, and Clift’s disinterest was “intriguing” to Taylor, Casillo said.

He continued: “Men were interested in her for her physicality. Now she had a man who was sitting there, talking about movies and books that she liked, her plans for her future and the roles she wanted to play.

“I really do think he’s the first one who saw interest in her as a person.”

Clift eventually came out to Taylor, and she quickly “started trying to think of other gay men she could fix him up with”. Their incredible friendship endured until Clift’s death in 1966.

Elizabeth Taylor was an early AIDS activist

After Montgomery Clift’s death, the AIDS crisis emerged and Elizabeth Taylor became a committed activist.

She co-founded amfAR (The Foundation for AIDS research) in 1985 after her close friend and actor Rock Hudson died from the disease, and later, in 1991, she started The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.

Although Clift’s autopsy reports cited a heart attack as his cause of death, he suffered from multiple health problems and struggled with addiction.

Casillo said: “Monty could very well have been one of the fatalities of AIDS.

“I believe she got involved with it in part because she was always trying to do for Monty, even years after his death.

“They loved each other.”
